My name is Marta Callizo. I’m a fully qualified and registered arts therapist currently based in Barcelona. I hold full memberships with EFAT (European Federation of Arts Therapy) and ATe (Asociación Profesional Española de Arteterapeutas). In parallel with my private practice as an arts therapist, I also collaborate with The MIECAT Institute as an academic member for the masters programme in therapeutic arts practice.
I was born and raised in Catalonia and soon after completing my Masters in Architecture I flew to Australia. It was meant to be only a short trip, but I ended up working and living down under for more than a decade.
At first, I worked as an architect while I immersed myself in the rich culture and music scene that my new city had to offer.
Although I love architecture, I have always been really drawn to human nature and I often found myself wondering about why we do what we do and the ways we have to operate in the world.
So one day I found myself following the thread of my curiosity and enrolled in the Masters of Creative and Experiential Arts Therapy at the MIECAT Institute (Melbourne, Australia). Slowly but surely I started learning a bunch of new tools that enable a gentle and yet powerful exploration by the means of creative processes.
As part of my studies I was also able to research into the experience of settling away from one’s original homeland. Together with a group of participants, we looked into our understanding of belonging, connection and identity. This is an area I’m very passionate about and still working on to this date!
